Empathy: Definition from merriam-webster Dictionary:
The action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner; also : the capacity for this.
Personally I don’t recall so much mention of ‘Empathy’ in the workplace a decade ago! Either it was a non-issue or everyone was empathetic (unlikely!) Or we just cared for it in non-working life! In any case and for any reason, now we want the Leaders to have ‘empathy’ and if we think they don’t, we make an attempt to train them! I believe this is a character quality and difficult to transform individuals to be empathetic but I am hopeful I am proven wrong! Here is an interesting and funny video by Dr. Brené Brown on Empathy! Enjoy it.
